Nope, it’s not a joke. Pat McAfee announced yesterday that he will be hanging up his cleats to pursue a career in comedy. Actually, Pat’s already been following that dream, doing stand up comedy in front of sold out crowds, has hosted his own local TV show and other creative ventures. Pat will be a contributor the Comedy Central’s “Barstool Rundown”, not moving to the Big Apple, but will instead remain in Indiana (for now) and will film segments from a downtown Indy studio. According to Pat, Colt’s owner Jim Irsay spent some time discussing this decision earlier this week, but said that while Jim wanted Pat to remain with the team awhile longer, he understood Pat’s dream and became very supportive.
So, is anyone really surprised? Pat talked about this a year ago, and it was Colts coach Chuck Pagano who talked him out of it. But according to Pat, this has been his childhood dream. He just happens to be a guy who can kick a football really well. Anylists say they’re sure McAfee has a comfortable bank account, so he won’t be hurting for money or forced to move back in with his parents. And I wouldn’t count Pat out of football forever. He’s young, just 29. He could make one more go of it…so stay tuned.
